Ellie McGlade Honoured With Plaque at O'Connor Catholic College, Armidale

To commemorate Anzac Day this year, O'Connor Catholic College held a service in Armidale, where a plaque was dedicated in memory of Mary Eleanor (Ellie) McGlade and her fellow victims of the Bangka Island massacre, February 16 1942.

Major Erica Van Ash, a member of the Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps was the official guest and spoke beautifully about the life, service and sacrifice of Ellie and her nursing sisters, who refused to leave the sick and wounded in their care even though it cost them their lives.
